Dear Juno, and other teenagers in a similar situation,

My name is Oswaldo Rico, and I’m 17 years old, a senior attending Foothill Technology High School. First off, all of this could have been prevented, but your actions showed that there was a lack of knowledge about sex. What were you thinking? Did you think that nothing was going to happen? Didn’t you know where babies came from? Therefore, I believe that Bleeker and you acted irresponsibly because being bored doesn’t mean you should have sex. Having sex results in pregnancy, and it’s a big responsibility for both of you. I find it absurd that Bleeker decided to have sex with you, I thought he was smarter than that. Evidently, he wasn't smart regarding about sex. Being pregnant, will effect your life socially and academically, it’s not situations that teenagers should go through. As a woman, you have the right to choose to terminate your pregnancy, put it up for adoption, or abort. Since the Roe vs Wade decision made abortion legal in the United states, and the 14th Amendment, which is the right to privacy, protects your rights as a mother. Hence, you were able to decide if you could take care of your baby or not.

I am relieved that you did not terminate your pregnancy, even though you had the right to do so. Your handled your situation in a mature manner, I applaud you for acting this way regardless of your irresponsible acts. Instead of terminating your pregnancy, you put your baby up for adoption which is the best solution to your current situation. There are many families today that cannot have babies of their own, and are ready to be parents. You don’t realize what you did, you gave your baby to a family who will take care of your baby and give the love that it deserves. I find it selfish that when teenagers have an unwanted pregnancy, they go straight to the option that I don’t agree with, abortion. I just believe it’s wrong to terminate a pregnancy because you’re killing a potential human being, and it’s been proven that life begins at pregnancy. Since I am Catholic, destroying life is an evil act that is a mortal sin. Today, the majority of teenagers to decide to abort and it’s truly sad. All those babies were denied the opportunity to live on Earth, just because that specific teenager did not take necessary precautions to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

I hope that you learned your lesson, because it is important to take necessary precautions to prevent unwanted pregnancies. I wish there were more people like you in the world, however that is not the case. I don't understand why people do not take the essential precautions to prevent situations like these, and cause millions of innocent babies to be murdered. You have been given another opportunity to get the proper education you need, to be able to live on your own, have your own children and get married. Once you’re older, you will realize that you are ready to be a parent. Personally, you did the right thing and I congratulate you for not taking the path that the majority of teenagers take now a days. I respect your decision, and I know someday that you will be a great mother, Juno. Everyone makes mistakes, even the smartest people, and Bleeker is a great example of that. That is why we learn from our mistakes, and I hope you did.

Sincerely,
Oswaldo Rico
